About Me

Yours Truly showing his kindly face. Taken in the living room.

Who Am I, Then?

Well, for starters:
I'm a 24 year old guy coming from Norway , the so called Land of The Midnight Sun, as the foreigners (not) so eloquently put it.

Born in Trondheim 11th of January, in The Year Of The Lord 1975, and have lived all my life at Ørland. My parents who have made such a good job in raising me are Rigmor and Odd. I'm an only child, something which I guess can have its advantages sometimes :) (At least one doesn't have to care about the annoying thought of constantly sharing your parents' attention with some geek of a brother or sister :) ).

Currently living in Trondheim, I'm attending the Norwegian University of Science & Technology (NTNU) , where I'm attending the Applied Linguistics class for the 2nd year.

At the moment, I'm yet not sure of what I'm devoted for in this life. I have plans of studying language/communication. As I for the moment see it, I will try to become a teacher or maybe educate within science regarding communication.

Former education includes:
- degree in norwegian (Volda 1994/95).
- degree in biotechnology (Namsos 1996/97).

Most tragically the biotechnology class in Namsos was officially closed down during summer 1998, due to severe reduction of grant of money from the norwegian Government. Indeed a sad outcome, since that class was one of the most interesting ones I have ever attended, and because our teacher, Stein Skjønberg (mentioned in the article above) was the most inspiring teacher I have ever experienced in my life.

Hobbies & interests include:
Playing/composing and listening to music, reading, roleplaying (Krynn AD&D and Krynn 5th Age (The Dragonlance SAGA)), sports (among other things indoor hockey), composing computerized music, computer games, chatting (IRC and other chats), surfing His Microsoft-ness Bill Gates' 'Information Highway', and basically hanging out with my friends, having fun!
(Party anyone? :-) ).

Regarding Music

Music has always played an important role in my life, and I know it will continue to do so for the rest of my life. I guess I have always been interested in music, ever since my parents first made me begin listening to children's songs at a verly early age. Being raised in a musical family (my dad used to play the alt saxophone and my mom sings in an amateur choir), music has never been far away in our home. In addition of attending a regular kindergarden during my younger days, I also attended a musical kindergarden, where I guess I first learned to become interested in musical instruments. When I was at the age of seven, I began starting playing the organ, being a member of my local community's School of Music, and I have played the organ ever since that time, although I quit the School of Music back in 1989. A BIG "thank you" from me goes to my organ teacher and a kind of musical tutor during those years, Bernt Gjelvold, with whom I got so lucky to work with for seven straight years (thanks Bernt; I'll always be grateful for the things you learned me and the way you guided me during those years.) In addition of playing the organ for about 17 years now, I also play keyboards and synthezisers.

In February 1984, I was signed up as a member of my community's marching band, Ørland Skolemusikk, playing the cornet/trumpet. Having witnessed both the last uprising successful year (1986) and the nearly downfall of the band around the mid 90s, I eventually quit the band just prior to my graduation celebration in May 1994, after having served the band loyaly for 11 straight seasons. I truly miss those very first years being a member of the band, when it was still on the top, enjoying its last successful year. Since '86, more and more members eventually quit the band, and for the last years, during the 90s, playing in the band eventually became more of a duty than of enjoy.

Additionally, when being a student for the first time after High School (at Volda College 1994/95), I participated in winning a brass band price for "Best Brass Band In Amateur Class", with The Volda College Brass Band, at the Norwegian Brassband Festival 1995, at that year held in Ørskog.

When I got my, at that time fairly new (now long ago outdated) Amiga500 Computer back in 1990, I started out composing songs on it, eventually ending up in a cooperation together with one of my best friends, Harald Venes (who goes under the nick of "Solinari" on IRC), forming a musical duo, which later would be known as The Sundance Kid and El Loco, respectively. During summer 1993 we then became members of one of the best computer groups in Norway par excellence, called Talent (and most surprisingly we are still regarded as members of it, now four years later, despite of heavily inactivity during the recent two years).
The finest moment so far in our "carreers" as computerized music-scoring dudes, took place back in '94, at Norway's annual largest-holding computer party, "The Gathering", when we managed to get hold of the 10th place in the music competition being held there (among other competitions). If you want to hear two samples of our work (please take into consideration that these two songs was made during 1993-94, and that we never had the best standard equipment, even at that time), you should go here: Talentiaden , and here: Ultra Violet Rays. If you want to know more about the computer group Talent, you can go here.

Regarding Chatting: IRC (Or "The Place To Be")

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) has come to my knowledge of being the superior chat program among the jungle of chat programs lying on the net. Although I had heard about IRC for quite some time on forehand, it wasn't until January '97, that I eventually managed "to get my two feet inside it". The main channel of which I have become nearly "attached" to over the months is #Krynn, located on the usefnet. Over the past year I have made a lot of new friends on this channel. Another channel I've had the pleasure of visiting every now and then is #Kenderhome. When being on IRC I go under the nick Justie, and to some people I'm also known as Riverwind.

I would like to send regards to the following people (no order whatsoever):
Solinari, Ryen, Sistance, Eltanin, Firelady, Raistlin`, Isolde, Cran, Tristam, Vladic, Luke_S, Bezerker, Shena, LadySarah, Amano, SirGeoff, Arsenal, Nyks, Pest, Nylander, Matrim and the rest of you I have forgotten. :)

I also like to pop by the great channel #tut, on euroefnet. Greetings here goes to (still no order whatsoever):
Ludus, Ludolf, Fuzzywuzz, Torkild, Mordor, Hemulen, Thiron, Nysalor, Maddie, Ayla, Dr_Feelgood, Morpheum, Ack, Khi, Bratt, AK and the rest.

Regarding Sports

When it comes down to sports I really enjoy watching, it's basically european soccer together with the best of U.S. sports, like basketball (NBA) and hockey (NHL) in particular. In addition I also like to watch Michael Schumacher & Co speeding around like mad men during the car races of Formula 1. I also very much enjoy playing tennis, which is my very favourite pastime in sports for the moment. Quite recently I have begun to take up sports as versatile as badminton and dancing.
